I'm not sure what to make of this speech by Noam Chomsky concerning the war. When you read what he has to say it sometimes feels as though you have to make a decision: either you've been completely asleep in your life or he is completely insane.
Getting your head around the truth can be a painful experience.

I came across an old issue of the Bay Guardian today that had an interesting classified (Men seeking women) ad. This person sounds really cool. Anyone looking for a SO?
"Funny, creative WM seeks football-literate LF for Spanish lessons and Monday nights spent watching football in Mission area bars. Please no born-agains."

I've been thinking long and hard about this Styx thing. Not really about their connection to American patriotism -- of that there can be no doubt -- but of the larger implications behind the Larry Gowan thing. Larry Gowan is the has-been 80s Canadian pop-myster best remembered for his forgotten 198mumble hit "Criminal Mind". Well, Styx has evicted its orignal frontman, Dennis DeYoung, and replaced him with Gowan and if you check out their Web site you'll see that one of the latest Styx singles is... "Criminal Mind."
So this really brings up a larger ontological question: Has Gowan joined Styx or has Styx joined Gowan? Gowan has the edge in that he's the only one to pen any kind of hit song after Mr. Roboto, but the way the press seems to be spinning things, the appearance is that Gowan has joined Styx.
They may be on to something here. Personally, I think they should milk this Criminal Mind thing for all it's worth and then fire Larry and replace him with Luba.
As always, Mike has the definitive quote on the matter:
"i love that Gowan, ultimate Canadian shlock-rocker, has infiltrated the
oh-so-American Styx...what's next? Raffi headlining the Beach Boys?"

This is it. The dawn of a new era. My own, very special vanity weblog. I'm going to kick it off with an email I recieved from Nick Adams today:
Hey dude,
My friend just emailed me these awesome lyrics:
The Renegade
Music by Tommy Shaw
Lyrics by I.M. American
Osama, you're in fear for your life from the long arm of the law
Bush man has put an end to your running, and you're far away from home
Osama, I can hear you a crying you're so scared and all alone
Bush man is coming down from the White House and you don't have very long
The Taliban, they sold you out
To save their country
The holy man who cried Jihad
Turned in for a bounty
Never more to kneel and pray
This'll be the end today
Of the wanted man
Osama, you've been years on the lam and had a high price on your head
Bush Man said 'Get him dead or alive' and it's for sure he'll see you dead
Osama I can hear you cryin', you're so scared and all alone
Bush is comin' down from the White House and you don't have very long
And Pakistan, they sold you out
To save their country
The holy man who cried Jihad
Turned in for a bounty
Never more to kneel and pray
This'll be the end today
Of the wanted man
Osama, you're in fear for your life from the long arm of the law
Bush man has put an end to your running and you're so far away from home
Uzbekistan, they sold you out
To save their country
The holy man who cried Jihad
Turned in for a bounty
Never more to kneel and pray
This'll be the end today
Of the wanted man
