Yo, quitters! How's it going? If anyone wants to mosey on over to my blog I actually got a piece of hate-comment. I'm going to try to draw this person into an actual dialogue. I guess I'm a bully. But I'm also curious. Just how stupid can someone be without forgetting to breathe? I really want to know.

Here's a potential Quitters CD mix:

Dinosaur Jr. Don’t
Sammy Davis, Jr. Smoke, Smoke Smoke (That Cigarette)
Badfinger Give it Up
Peggy Lee Don’t Smoke in Bed
Spirit Now or Anywhere
Julianna Hatfield Quit
Sisters of Mercy This Corrosion
REO Speedwagon I Don’t Want to Lose You

Burn CDs, not Tobacco!

It is the Golden Age of Copyright Infringement, after all. A basic way to do this is to assign each participant a month in which they send everyone else their mix. But we can add in mechanisms for newcomers (or strangers who find us) by requiring, for example, these people to send their own mix out in order to start receiving. These were all suggestions in the article, BTW- any other ideas?

I think we'll need a snappy name. Poet Shivvy, any thoughts?

Great idea MM. Bob and I have more or less been doing it for years so you know I'm in. How does it work?

Burn CDs, not tobacco! Our new rallying cry? I'm in!

uh, yeah, silence ... maybe it's time to evolve. Inspired by a recent article in the NY Times (and my new CD burner), I propose we think about starting our own "burn club."

Aw thanks guys! You know those experts are bang on about the support thing... I would've fallen off the smoke-free wagon weeks ago if it weren't for the likes of yourselves and Misterpink rooting to keep me on it!! I know I WON'T have a cigarette... but I do really, really want one and have done for the last few days.

Something new I'm discovering (and I don't remember whether or not I've already mentioned this) is the uncomfortable silence. I mean... who ever saw a smoker experience that? We, I mean, they don't. There are no uncomfortable silences in the smoker's world.

Hang in, Shivers! Check out what the experts say-- I think we've got this one down (and I actually do think the worst is behind us).

The experts said: Don’t quit alone. Get expert counseling and social support. In fact, they found a strong “dose effect”; that means the more support people had the more likely they were to succeed.

Shiv! Be strong!! Last night we were drinking and hanging out with smokers and I wanted one so badly but I didn't succumb and that feels better than that smoke would have (I swear I'm not just rationalizing). So don't give in. You've come this far, the worst is behind you...

For what it's worth I have been craving a smoke beyond belief for the last 24 hours at least. This is getting harder again. Maybe I should start sucking lemons.

MM glad you liked the movie... he he!

Late as usual. Happy Birthday MM! You should be receiving a cd of burnt vinyl any day now. The first vinyl to CD production from The House Of J-MaK!

The Lemon thing; I've been drinking fresh squeezed lemon and water for years. It's a habit I picked up in my Italy days and I don't know if it does all the things you say but it does feel right to me.besides being refreshing it was a way to cut back on the sugar in all the juice I love so much.

Rick what was it that you were wrong about and Bush was right. I'm curious?

Queenshivvy- finally had a chance to check out the e-film. Love love love the cinematic imagination. yow. Many thanks. Not sure if this'll work, but if anyone else wants to check it out, click here.

you say it's yer birthday...
you know, i really feel like a fake on this site, since i'm not a quitter.

I did not come up with this. It's called a "lemon flush" and it's supposed to do wonderful things for your liver. Leni pointed me towards this vegan cookbook that talks about it. Besides any flushing properties, I find when I drink it in the morn I don't get hungry at all until noonish. Now that I'm back on the sauce, though, I may start adding a shot of gin for a little extra kick in the morning.

Lemon and water eh? Is this a diet you've come up with yourself or some strict regimen outlined by some sort of Montignac type???

It is quiet....eerie quiet. Does this mean everyone's doing so well that they don't need this ol' crutch so much? Or are people sneaking smokes and too ashamed to show their icons? I'm still doing great, ciggie-wise. After a weekend of eating and eating (bacon and eggs on Sunday!) I'm back to a less strict version of the regimen. Breakfast is still just a half a lemon in warm water, but now I get to eat ice cream after dinner and not feel guilty.

So quiet here these days... is everyone through with quitting?

Time Smoke-Free: 33 days, 15 hours, 41 minutes and 27 seconds
Cigarettes NOT smoked: 337
Lifetime Saved: 2 days, 13 hours
Money Saved: $110.50

Thanks, Shivvy and Bobby, for the wishes!

Hey Melissa! Happy birthday to you, you quitting machine.

Actually, MM doesn't turn, um, 25 until Tuesday, so everyone has plenty of time to send her birthday greetings.

Hey happy birthday MM!!! Sorry to have missed it and yeah, congrats again! That's a toughie and you made it! Too cool!

Melissa was amazing! Friday night we threw her a surprise birthday dinner in the private dining room of a fancy shmancy restaurant. Out of ten of us, there were six smokers. Here we were, gorging on glorious food, wine flowing like, well, wine, Melissa surrounded by smokers, dying for one...and she resisted. And didn't seem the worse for it. Way to go, baby!

Oh, and there's a massive change in my quit status. Still off the cigarettes but, as of Friday, I'm back on the booze, food, and caffeine. Oh man it's good to be alive!

Well done Melissa! It's DAMN hard but we've made it past the month mark... I think treats are in order!

Hi all-- Monday after a particularly difficult Nonsmoking Weekend. With Nick in town and the booze and smoke running freely, I actually reached for a cigarette several times. I guess I should be glad someone stopped me every time. [grrrrrrr]

Oh, and yesterday marked the full month of quitting!
